Pets are funny. We love them, take care of them and treat them like children. We have 4. Spookie, Bella Donna, Beast and Precious. We have not 'purchased' any of our pets from pet stores. All of our dogs are shelter dogs, and yes they are all pure breeds (lol). If anyone is thinking about getting a pet, PLEASE go to your local animal shelter, or ASPCA first. Not only will you find the perfect friend for your kids and/or yourself there, but 9 times out of 10 you will also be saving a life. There are not many 'NO KILL' shelters in the U.S. and that means that many animals that would make wonderful pets are often put to sleep instead of in to loving homes.
This is the story of our pets!
Spookie (the black cat in the pic with the kids) is now 10 years old. He was found in my sister Bonnie's mail box in Rhode Island, someone put him there starved half to death during the night and we didn't find him untill 3:30 the next day he has been Lou's best buddy ever sense. Please don't think the kids are hurting him in any way, he loves to just hang out with Tori. When she was little (like little kids will do to pets) she would dress him up in baby doll clothes and put him into strollers, doll cribs and carriers and walk him all over the house and yard saying "Isn't he a pretty baby" and I think he kind of liked it (which just goes to prove that Cats really are Drag Queens). He now lives with Tori's grandma and Aunt (we lived right on the road and was affraid he would get hit by a car), they have more room for him to hunt there and Beast was trying to kill him. Tori's uncle lost his beloved cat to old age and sickness (R.I.P Gizmo) she was about 15 years old and has bonded with Spookie so we decided after buying the new house that he could stay and keep Larry company, and live out his days being spoiled rotten at their house.
Bella Donna (for all those that read Tolkien at all YES Bella Donna was the name of Bilbo Baggins's mother, which in itself is proof of my Tolkien addiction) was rescued from almost certain death from the Animal Shelter in October 2005. She is a beautiful Rotti Chow mix one of the best dogs ever if you ask me. She is spoiled rotten, and loves kids. She tends to be the "mother hen" type dog which works out wonderfull when the kids are outside playing. Come mess with my kids while they are outside and you think no one is looking, go ahead, I dare you, I double dog dare you!
Beast (who started out being called Belroc (which is either Elvish or Dwarven for ancient Evil) ended up being Beast for the simple fact that no one but me liked the name) came to us at about 4 weeks old as a "foster kid", our job was simple; get him healthy, happy, and fat, don't fall in love with him then when the Animal Shelter called with a family for him let him go with our best wishes. That was back in September of 2006. Needless to say we fell in love with him, named him and he has been with us ever since. He is a Rotti Lab mix (wich simple means that he is a large pain in the butt). Beast is Porkchop's dog, they dig holes, play matchbox cars (yes he plays too), ride in the powerwheel together and just hang out. On more then one occasion I have found them both napping under the Pecan tree in the back yard or sleeping on top of the picnic table . They are the best of friends.
Precious We are not sure how old she is, we are still waiting on her paper work all we really know is that she is at least a year old, and is (supposedly) AKC registered. I really don't care about papers I have already fallen in LOVE with her, the only down side is it looks like my big, bad, macho husband is now the owner of a beautiful black and grey Lahsa Apso (LMFAO!). She came (unfortunately) with the name Miss Prissy, after bringing her home and hanging out with her for a while we found out that she comes when you say just Miss so I have renamed her Miss Precious (I can handle calling for Precious better then I can calling Prissy. And for the simple fact that it keeps with the Lord of the Rings theme I have going) and so far she seems to actually like it (I said "come on precious" and she came right to me wich is a good sign). We had her at the house for about a day and discovered that she really enjoys being with Lou (go figure 2 Drama Queens hang out together).

Thanks for listening to the endless rant of a crazy person!
